November workshop series

Understanding How to Build Your Credit

A good credit score is essential when applying for a credit card or a loan, but that’s not all! Your credit score demonstrates how you pay back money you have borrowed – and this matters when you’re applying for a new apartment, buying a new phone, or when buying insurance. During the pandemic, job loss or health issues may have thrown you off track. But you can fix that! In partnership with the Wells Fargo Foundation, CSD Learns is pleased to present their four-part financial education series, “Understanding How to Build Your Credit,” with finance expert Justin Folk.

Most people aren’t comfortable talking about credit or letting someone manage their money. But for Justin Folk, discussing finances is a childhood pastime. Polk is Vice President of Finance at Folk Williams, a family-owned and operated financial management service that has been in business since 1958. As part of the third generation to carry on the family business, Justin believes in making those seeking financial support feel like part of the family too.

Justin shares the building blocks of credit, from terms you should know to the payment timeline and why building credit is important. Whether you are an individual or a business, this course is for you!

    • Credit options available during the pandemic
    • How the CARES ACT supports businesses and individuals
    • Resources to continue exploring strategies for improvement

There are many opportunities to improve your credit during the pandemic. In addition to local and federal relief programs, many lesser-known financial loopholes can change your situation for the better. This session covers:

      • Ways to bounce back from a low credit score
      • How to communicate with creditors
      • Your rights as a consumer

A low credit score has the potential to take away your financial power. Higher interest rates, fewer loan options, and difficulties obtaining the things you want are just some of the challenges you can face. But you can bounce back by making payments on time, paying in full, and checking your score frequently. Watch the video to get tips and resources from Justin and Consumer Credit Expert Geneen Parker-Greenberg on how you can maintain control of your financial future!
